The Island Government and the Canary Islands Government launch the new ‘Bono Residente Canario’ for the public transport

The president of the Island Government, Carlos Alonso, and the president of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo, presented at the press conference the new ‘Bono Residente Canario’ which offers public transport users residing in the Canary Islands a cheaper fare. The new pass allows passengers residing in Tenerife, to use the bus and tram services unlimited throughout the island, for only 47 €/month. The regional authorities, Rosa Dávila and Pablo Rodríguez; the director of the Mobility in the Island, Miguel Becerra; Titsa´s manager, Jacobo Kalitovics, and the Commercial director of Metrotenerife, Gonzalo Umpiérrez, attended the presentation. Carlos Alonso highlighted that, with this new pass, the daily cost of the journey will be about 1,5 Euro. The measure will mean significant savings of about 75% for users who move between the north or south of the island and the metropolitan area.

Fernando Clavijo emphasized that Tenerife is the first island of the Archipelago to introduce this discount. With the ‘Bono Residente Canario’, the Canary Islands Government promotes a more sustainable, efficient and environmentally friendly ground transport. On the other hand, Miguel Becerra estimated that, in few months, about 15.000 applications will be requested.

The ‘Bono Residente Canario’ is one of the 10 actions that the Island Government is carry out in coordination with Metrotenerife and Titsa to promote the use of public transport and offer discounts on tram or bus.

The passenger must validate the new card only when boarding the tram, on the bus, must validate at the entrance and before leaving the bus.

During the next months others actions will be activated in relation with the fare system or improvement of the offer with new tram and bus services.
